Developed for the lobby and reception areas at the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen in the late 50s.
The Egg Chair Plus Ottoman was originally available in leather. In order to lower the price Jacobsen set out to use fabric and later on a footstool was also added. The chair was first introduced to the public in Paris in November 1958 and in January 1959 in Denmark.

As time passed the material used for the production changed. Nowadays the shell is moulded in polyurethane and upholstered with either fabric or leather. The synthetic is padded with cold foam and a tilt function has also been added, which enables the chair to swivel 360.
