Developed for the lobby and reception areas at the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen in the late 50s. Today the shell is moulded in polyurethane and upholstered with fabric or leather, the synthetic shell is padded with cold foam and covered with fabric or leather resting on a star-shaped aluminium base.

Danish architect and designer, Arne Jacobsen was one of the most important representatives of functionalism in the 1930s and 1950s, working in Copenhagen as a city planner, architect and designer. Most recently, he has been credited with being the most important Danish architect and designer of the twentieth century.

Elegant, boimorphic forms charaterise his chair designs, an aesthetic that is best seen in the three-legged Ant chair, more than five million of which have been produced since its design in 1951, making it one of the most successful chairs in the history of furniture design.
